Mid-Autumn Festival is one week away! What are these delicious mooncakes all about? In Chinese culture, a round shape symbolizes completeness and reunion. Thus, the sharing and eating of round moon cakes among family members during the week of the festival signify the completeness and unity of families. It is one of the hallmark traditions of this festival.
There are many kinds of moon cakes, among which the five kernel and roast pork mooncakes are the most traditional and classic flavors. They are filled with mixed nuts and seeds (almonds, walnuts, peanut, dried winter melon, sesame, pumpkin seeds, pine nut and so on)
Interested in trying a mooncake? Check with your local Asian supermarkets to see if they carry them or order from one of our favorite bakeries in California, Sheng Kee!
They are very tasty and only 643 calories per bite! 🤔
