The academic team at New Oasis offers service to students in a variety of areas. Here is a scope of the services the team provides:
The academic team helps all students create an individualized High School Action Plan each school year. The Action Plan provides a framework for students to set goals each quarter, specific to their grade level and individual needs. At the end of each quarter, the team reviews the plan with students and helps them reflect, revise or create new goals for the next quarter.
At the beginning of each school year, in conjunction with the school guidance counselor, the academic team provides guidance about course selection so students are enrolled in challenging and appropriate coursework to them fulfill their college goals.
Throughout the school year, the academic team provides regular advising to students on academics and extracurricular activities with a focus on components in the college admissions process.
To better support each student, the team closely tracks students’ academics by checking their grades on the school’s online system and collecting comments from teachers, guidance counselors, or other school administrators.
Components such as grades, class participation, assignment completion, and adjustment to the school environment are assessed by local coordinators and the academic team. If issues are identified, the team works with the student and provides additional support to address the issue.
The academic team learns every student’s interests and goals, evaluates their strengths and weaknesses, and maps out a plan to help them improve and achieve personal goals in different areas.
For junior and senior students, the team provides detailed knowledge regarding the college-admissions process and how to prepare the application materials. Together with the students, the team assists with researching colleges, majors, and teaching students how to complete the college application.
The academic team provides general guidance about study-planning and test-scheduling for standardized tests, such as the TOEFL, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, and AP. In addition, the team provides webinars on TOEFL and SAT preparation.
Throughout the school year, webinars are delivered on various topics necessary for student success including study-skills, English-improvement, getting involved in activities, college admissions, and summer planning. These webinars are adjusted to fit the needs of students based on feedback.
For students struggling with English proficiency, the team assists in finding qualified tutors to provide ELL classes. If students need help preparing for standardized tests or extra subject-study, the team helps the students find a tutor. Academic Advisors will follow up with instructors and students to ensure the students get the desired and quality help they need.
